East Parlor Ayr Mount’s sunny East wing was probably William and Margaret Kirkland’s bedroom when the house was first built. The bust by Ball Hughes is of Judge William Gaston (1778-1844). Gaston’s granddaughter, Eliza Gaston in 1861 married William Kirkland’s grandson, Samuel Simpson Kirkland. Judge Gaston’s daughter, Susan Gaston Donaldson was then the mistress of Edgewater, which Mr. Jenrette also owns. |
